EEC Program Celebrates its First Workshop: A Meaningful Day of Connection with Youth Without Shelter
On March 6, 2026, the Equine Experiential Connection (EEC) Program welcomed six youth from Youth Without Shelter for a powerful day of experiential learning with horses, made possible through the generosity and leadership of retired world champion jockey Eurico Rosa da Silva.
Hosted at the beautiful property of the LongRun Thoroughbred Retirement Society in Hillsburgh - co-facilitated by Alexandra Rose and thoughtfully organized by Carol Hodges - the day offered youth a calm, supportive environment to connect with horses in a meaningful and intentional way.
We are deeply grateful for the commitment and presence that made this experience possible. Opportunities like this reflect the heart of the EEC Program: connection, presence, and growth through relationship.
Throughout the day, participants were invited to slow down, observe, and respond to the horses in ways that encouraged awareness, presence, and emotional regulation. From shared meals and thoughtful gifts like gloves and hats, to reflective art activities, every element supported a sense of welcome, care, and expression.
It was incredibly touching to witness the youth open up to the horses in beautiful, profound ways, and to observe them leave feeling grounded, heart-centered, and eager to return to horses - whether through LongRun or in other meaningful ways in their lives.
Experiences like this show how connecting with horses can help youth navigate stress, process complex emotions, and build confidence in themselves. Horses offer immediate feedback through their presence and responsiveness, creating opportunities for reflection, trust, and growth.
We feel honored to provide these experiences and look forward to continuing to support youth in building meaningful connections with horses, fostering curiosity, confidence, and resilience along the way.
